My 1st memory of making art was in preschool. We’d be given plain white printer paper, and crayons. The paper was attached to a hot plate, I remember the sensation and joy of the waxy and oily colors spreading across the warm surface like soft butter, unlike any kid safe paints.
At 16 I was finally introduced to oil painting in the traditional grisaille method. For college I went to NYU where I explored, was exposed to new methods, and finally learned to paint in color.
Now, 12 years into this practice I’ve painted many subjects and in different themes. from portraiture, figuration, to still life and landscape. I am inspired by a variety of images and experiences which I paint from life or take back into the studio. I used to paint mostly from images, but now I practice without the assistance of an image, relying on my memory and sketches to guide my path.
Creativity is a muscle that grows stronger with use. Life is better when we embrace our strength.
I paint to live my own life well, and show the joy that is possible for anyone when we follow the longing of our soul with consistency and courage.
